About the Program
Are you passionate about boats? The Boat Building and Repair program at Seattle Central College offers training in the construction and repair of watercraft and their onboard systems to prepare you for a rewarding career in the industry.
Career OpportunitiesWashington state has one of the highest concentrations of maritime trade jobs in the country. Our Boat Building and Repair graduates go on to enjoy rewarding careers in a variety of settings, including:
- Commercial and Pleasure Boatbuilding Shops
- Repair Yards
- Yacht Interior Joinery
- Mechanical and Electrical Systems Installation and Repair
The Wood Technology Center at Seattle Central College provides safe and comprehensive hands-on training in boat-building, repair/retrofitting and systems maintenance. You’ll learn repair and construction principles behind both traditional and modern boat building.
As you progress through your courses, you’ll complete supervised projects and gain plenty of hands-on experience working with both wood and fiberglass components. You could earn an Associate of Applied Science in as little as five quarters.

My goals coming into the program were to network in the boating and woodworking community and see where I could fit. But going through the program has changed my ideas about what types of jobs are out there. I feel really prepared for a new career.
